This training is intended for junior and mid-experienced public affairs officials, and anyone who would like to understand policy-making in Belgium. The seminar will be taught in English.
Stefaan Fiers is Head of the Research Unit “Voting & Democracy” and part-time Professor in Comparative Politics and Public Affairs at KULeuven.
In this seminar, he will elaborate on the proportional electoral system and its consequences for policy making in Belgium. Proportional representation not only has an impact on the number of parties in parliament, the formation of the government and the voting behavior of the elected MPs in parliament. It also defines the opportunities for advocacy and lobbying. Thanks to blended learning, with a mix of theory and practical use cases, participants will gain both fundamental and practical insights on how the system works, and how they can successfully increase their access entries for lobby activities.
